Psychology Week ~ 10-16 November 2019

“Social Justice & Psychology …”

What can we learn from young people?

In 2019, Psychology Week will promote what psychology as a science tells us about young people’s feelings, attitudes and beliefs about social justice, with a particular focus on the climate crisis.

The Australian Psychological Society [APS] will release a position paper during Psychology Week, looking at what Australian research tells us about young people and social justice involvement, and the relationship to psychology and psychological science.

About Psychology Week

Psychology Week is an annual initiative of the Australian Psychological Society that aims to increase public awareness of how psychology can help Australians lead healthier, happier and more meaningful lives.

The APS and its Psychologist members use Psychology Week to demystify and communicate the depth, breadth and many benefits of psychology. Many Australians benefit from psychology every day, in almost every setting – from classroom to workplace, private clinics to large hospitals, sports fields, courtrooms and much more.

Social Justice Youth Advisory Group

As part of Psychology Week 2019, the APS is  keen to raise community awareness about why it is important to listen to young people when it comes to social justice issues.

The APS is seeking young people aged between 16-25 years, with views they want to share on things like climate change, environmental destruction, racism and peace. If this sounds like you or someone you know, reach out! They would love to hear from you!

Last but not least …

We have a very exciting project to announce and launch as part of Psychology Week 2019. We will be hosting a kind of experiment in building and rebuilding that elusive something that both guides, restricts and binds us all together,’culture’.

It is called … ‘The Open Forum’

If you can make it to the Village of Tecoma 28-29 February 2020, you are invited, welcome to share some dinner and some views with members of our community because … you are needed. All of you is needed including and particularly your thoughts, feelings, perspectives and opinions.
